St Petersburg University offers new programmes to prepare teachers and translators/interpreters
St Petersburg University is to open bachelor’s programmes in foreign languages (Latvian, Estonian, Italian, German, and French).
As part of the admission campaign in 2024, applicants interested in studying foreign languages can apply for four new programmes:
- Foreign Languages of the Baltic Cultural Area (Latvian/Estonian, German)
- Italian Language, Literature, and Translation/Interpreting
- German Language, Literature, and Translation/Interpreting
- French Language, Literature, and Translation/Interpreting
The structure of all these programmes encourages a cross-disciplinary approach. Students are taught by native speakers, translators and interpreters. Each programme combines the comprehensive examination of linguistic culture of the target language, intercultural and interlingual communication, translation and interpreting, and teaching. Each programme will consist of developing your practical language skills to a high level, which gives graduates an excellent basis for a wide range of careers in language-related employment and research.
The sciences of languages in all their diversity are taught at St Petersburg University at all educational levels: there are bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programmes.
Amongst the careers successfully followed by modern linguists are: translators and interpreters; escort interpreters; teachers; editors; personal assistants in publishing houses and mass communication; and researchers. Each programme has additional qualifications "Foreign language teacher (indicating the relevant languages)" and "Translator/Interpreter" in accordance with the chosen profile.
